First report from Costa Rica

Our journey has begun….

Never before have I arrived in a country and immediately been issued a warning brochure. The warning that stuck out to me the most was that if your car broke down you should not stop…. How does that one work if your car is broken?

We arrived at San Jose at 5am, we waited outside the airport for our pre arranged taxi. Little by little people around us were bustled into cars and buses, yet we were still waiting for our driver ‘Don Won’. About 40 minutes later a taxi pulled in and returned three men whom it turned out had hijacked our taxi! We were a little baffled as to how three American men associated themselves with the sign the driver had been holding at the airport with ‘Rob and Aimee Sicora’ written on it. Well it turned out to be a rather comical event to begin the day with.

A few other interesting bits of information….

The currency here is colons and there is approximately 500 colons to one American dollar. Needless to say shopping at the super market is really quite funny, when you look at a price tag and feel alarmed for a brief moment that you need 4000 something to buy bottled water.

It is extremely hot here you sweat 24 hours a day. This morning Rob went for a surf and I worked on my tan, this was at 6am!! The sun was out the beach was packed there were runners and cyclists and people on mini motorbikes. The perimeter of the beach was surrounded with thousands of tents, it is holy week holiday and so everyone has come to Jaco (the town where we are staying).

Well just a little update so far, this is after all our second day here… although my feet would beg to differ, they are covered in blisters already, we have done so much walking!

Will write again soon,
